Track Championship at last

Hey friends!

After a long, exhausting, intense battle throughout the season against some great competitors at Pueblo Motorsports Park, we have finally captured our ultimate goal in the track championship in Sportsman!

Going into the final weekend with a two-round lead, we to be honest, struggled throughout most of the final weekend, only notching two round wins, leaving a very stressful door open for our competitors to potentially strut through. Thankfully, as I often say, the Lord’s timing is perfect, and we were blessed with the championship this time. The season in general was not an easy one as each week saw challenges.

Weekend One.

From the get-go, week 1 is always a challenge. Fighting a brand new setup and unknowns across the board, as well as a fuel pressure issue. Week 1 did not prove to be the most fruitful, mustering only a semi-final finish on the weekend to leave us a few spots back of the top spot.

Weekend Two.

Where the challenges really began is pulling into the lanes Friday night. A leaking fuel pump was set to disrupt everything if not end the points chase altogether. After spending several hours rallying friends in the pit area with fittings, AN Ends, pumps everywhere, I could not get a full setup together and was ready to throw in the towel. Thankful for our friends at MagnaFuel, who happen to be an hour North of the track in Colorado Springs, called me and happened to be at the shop. A midnight rush up north to rebuild the fuel pump is something that I will be forever thankful of and saved the season and kept us from dropping out of the weekend. We would go on to win one of the points races that weekend to put us in a prime position, sitting second and in striking distance of the points leader.

Weekend Three.

Points races five and six are where we really made our move on the points chase, as we won on Saturday to give us a back-to-back win before near disaster struck again. After the final round, something internally told me to check the slicks, and sure enough, the slicks are at the cords. Saving our bacon was two weeks prior; I purchased some brand-new DOT slicks just as a funsie spare to have that actually, because they were so cheap. I will come to learn that I need to improve my spare slick/wheel game, as this almost ruined our season. We would go on to not only catch up to the points leader, but take a two-round lead heading into the final weekend.

Weekend Four.

The final weekend was a mentally stressful one, as they usually are. Losing early in the day both Saturday and Sunday left the door open when it shouldn’t have. There is a certain bit of regret, disappointment, and difficulty swallowing not being the one to ‘take care of business’ persay myself, but regardless when the final lap crossed and we find ourself 41 points ahead, the emotion of happiness and hard work paying off helps heal that slight cloud hanging over the head.
