Taking Home the Win in Pueblo

Hey friends, happy to report that we took home our first win of the season at Pueblo Motorsports Park. Outlasting the competition for 6-rounds with no buybacks on a hot day was a challenge because of what happened earlier in the weekend.

Friday night, heading into the race weekend, I was pulling into the lanes for my first-time session before learning there was a fuel leak. The bushing in the fuel pump went bad after several years. After exhausting every opportunity in the pit area I was about ready to throw in the towel before a phone call saved the weekend. I have to send a special thanks to Josh, Tom, Bill, Brad, Scott, Kyle and John for offering pumps or a multitude of parts to attempt to rebuild mine.

MagnaFuel, the brand of the pump, happens to be in Colorado Springs, CO. Only about an hour away from the track. After a quick call, the good people at MagnaFuel were willing to rebuild the pump at midnight on Friday, what a relief! Zooming up to get the pump rebuilt, screaming back to install it at 2am with my head hitting the pillow around 3am.

Saturday started off rocky too with issues on my regulator as well. After spending an hour rebuilding the chain of regulator, AN fittings and such with parts from numerous pit areas, We were back on track. The belief is that gunk from the steel braided lines (five years old) got into the regulator and plugged it up, keeping it held open so fuel pressure would sky high. Scouring the pit area and want to say thanks to Tom, Brad, Josh, Kyle, Keith, and probably more that I forgot. We cobbled together enough AN fittings and line with a regulator to get to the carburetor.

From there, the car was stellar. Semi-finals on Saturday before running the gauntlet on Sunday for the win. The win puts us second in points as we turn for the second half of the season. The car performed significantly better on consistency with the replacement regulator in, which was a bittersweet result. Awesome, as it’s running great and consistently! Sad because one wonders how much better this car could’ve been in the past year had I caught it earlier.
