Tinwork Makes the Dream Work
Metal fabrication continues as the interior comes to a completion with the rear firewall.
Tinwork and completing the interior have been a major focus lately for Project 68. Dressing up the interior the way I wanted has been a challenge, but a fruitful one at that, with it beginning to come together.
Starting with new tinwork to replace the old rear firewall, the firewall now features a tubbed-like design with a twist; instead of rounded wells, it’s a straight piece caving inward to a horizontal piece that concaves to the middle where the bars meet, going through the wall. This idea was generated by the thought of making something look tubbed, when it isn’t, while also giving me a platform to get creative on the surface.
Without a brake I was forced to hand-bend the long horizontal floor piece to hide the floor underneath. What cannot be seen obviously is the minor framework done to support the flat aluminum sheet. Steel reinforcements keep things well secured and finished off with epoxy to lower vibration and fully seal off the back compartment of the car.
Utilizing decals, tape, WD-40, and some Scotch-Brite. I’ve scratched in some designs to the paneling that turned out very nice!
The technique was to move the vehicle vertically to give it a movement look. Centered in Christ with a cross in the middle, I’ve also designed in the Mopar M emblem on both sides of the tubs while integrating the Kohrt Racing logo on the paneling at the bottom, cleaning up the entire interior and finishing off my internal projects… for now.
